What a difference a year makes
Can’t believe it’s a little over a year ago that a group of us set off from sunny Saint Helens for a not so gentle hike to Old Trafford, experiencing every type of weather condition on the way. The fundraising target was smashed, so were some knees but the immense sense of achievement and pride made up for the blisters and dodgy joints.
Fast forward a year and the blisters are healed but the walk itself and the money raised are still having an impact. People still talk about the walk and about the people they met and shared 26 miles with.
But people who may not have hiked the marathon distance but followed and supported the challenge, heard about it from friends or spotted it on social media now talk about Better Things, what we do and how we support people. They talk about learning disabilities and understand them better, awareness has grown and with awareness comes understanding.
Personal achievements come in many different forms, sometimes we surprise ourselves (and others) with what we can do given the right opportunities to try something new.
And that’s what Better Things are about, creating opportunities, giving people the space to experience things they might otherwise not get to, a space to shine, to feel safe, to be themselves. We have been able to expand projects, welcome new participants and do more stuff!
